Coal City FPD responds to 86 fires in 2017

Coal City Fire Protection District responded to 163 calls in 2017 - 18.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Coal City included 86 fires - 63 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 17 other fires.

In all, the department saw $722,700 in fire loss - or about $8,403 per fire.

The department also received 77 false calls, including three malicious calls and 74 other false calls.

The Coal City Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,219,086 in 2017.

The Coal City Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has nine active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $34,615 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $462 for every fire in 2016.
