Streator FD responds to 65 fires in 2017

Streator Fire Department responded to 255 calls in 2017 - 3.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Streator included 65 fires - 34 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 23 other fires.

In all, the department saw $372,075 in fire loss - or about $5,724 per fire.

The department also received 190 false calls, including three malicious calls and 187 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Streator Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 16 active employees and 20 retired or inactive employees, was $674,700 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,306 for every fire in 2016.
