Wenona Fire Protection District responded to 28 calls in 2017 - 40 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Wenona included 27 fires - seven structure fires, three vehicle fires and 17 other fires.

In all, the department saw $18,800 in fire loss - or about $696 per fire.

The department also received one false call.

The Wenona Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $178,910 in 2017.
