City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met May 9.

David Manigold called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.
Public Comment
None.
Moved by Ken Brown, second by Steve Malinsky that the minutes of the April 11, 2018 meeting be
approved as written. All ayes. Motion passed.
Correspondence
Received an invitation from the Fire Department to attend the 25th Annual Firefighters Memorial on May 20,
2018 at 10:00 a.m.
The City and Ottawa Elementary School have agreed to add an additional school resource officer beginning
in the fall of 2018. The Board received a request from Commissioner Tom Ganiere to hire an additional
police patrol officer.
Pursuant to (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-14) (from Ch. 24, par. 10-2.1-14)
... “Applicants who have been awarded a certificate attesting to their successful completion of the
Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, as provided in the Illinois Police Training
Act, may be given preference in appointment over noncertified applicants.”
Moved by Ken Brown, second by Steve Malinsky to offer a police patrol position to the next eligible
candidate that has been awarded a certificate attesting their successful completion of Minimum Standards
Basic Law Enforcement Training Course on the current police patrol officer eligibility register. All ayes.
Motion passed.
New Business
The Board rescheduled fire promotional oral exams for Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Fire Station.
Old Business
Discussion regarding rules and regulations. Ken will make the suggested revisions and provide a draft for
the Board to review at the next meeting.
Moved by Ken Brown, second by David Manigold, to adjourn the meeting at 11:40 a.m.
