City of Peru Public Services Committee met May 21. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

Committee Members Present: Alderman Dave Waldorf Chairman, Alderman Lukosus,


Alderman Sapienza and Alderman Ballard present and Mayor Harl absent.

Other Persons Present: City Clerk Dave Bartley, Alderman Potthoff, PSM Jeff King,

ASM Doug Bernabei, City Engineer Eric Carls, Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski,

Mike Perry of Chamlin and Associates and Chris Perra of T.E.S.T.

Minutes

Chairman Waldorf made a motion to approve Public Services Committee Meeting 5/7/18

Minutes. Alderman Lukosus seconded; motion carried.

Electric

Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski reported on an apparent microburst that downed 12

power poles on May 14th. Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski reported damage caused

a 20-minute outage for some manufacturers on the north side of town and a few residents.

Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski stated power was rerouted and quickly restored.

Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski stated he met with the insurance company on May

18th to file the claim. Alderman Lukosus commended the Electric Department’s effort in getting

power restored.

Electric Department Foreman Kye Kaszynski reported on the challenges to access the pole line

along the railroad tracks to the hydro electric station. Electric Department Foreman Kye

Kaszynski stated trees are overgrown and the risk of fault. Electric Department Foreman Kye

Kaszynski commented on the limitation of time and personnel has prevented city crews from

cutting and maintaining the trees. The Committee discussed and recommended to approve a

quote from Haverfield with a not to exceed amount of $70,755.00,.

Landfill

None

Airport

Alderman Lukosus reported the TBM Avenger event at the airport. Alderman Lukosus stated the

event was a tremendous success and is very proud of the event. Alderman Lukosus thanked all

who contributed and stated there were over 200 volunteers. Alderman Lukosus stated an estimate

attendance of 18,000. Alderman Waldorf commented on the overall respectfulness of everyone.

Cemetery

City Engineer Eric Carls reported he is looking at options for repaving the cemetery roads.

Parks & Recreation

Alderman Sapienza made a motion to approve quote from Asphalt Restoration Systems in the

amount of $5,896 for repair and maintenance of walk path at Washington Park. Alderman

Lukosus seconded the motion. City Clerk Dave Bartley called the roll with Chairman Waldorf,

Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza and Ballard voting aye; Mayor Harl absent; motion carried.

PSM Jeff King reported the Illinois Valley Fence and Pool will erect a fence and landscaping

around the transformer at Washington Park.

PSM Jeff King reported on improvements to the Wiggly Field.

Code Enforcement

Engineering

City Engineer Eric Carls reported on the following projects:

     · Working on punch list for Plank Road and Commerce Drive

     · General Fund Street Program-east side of town is done

     · MFT Program-estimated paving this week

     · St. Johns Addition-about half complete with water main

     · Area 3 Phase 3 is underway

     · Clarifer #2 is underway

     · Floodwall at EWWTP-grant paperwork is executed

     · Preparation work for multiple other projects and grant submittal

     · Infrastructure grant pending for Unytite Drive

     · 21 day extension for clean-up of the former Red Door property

     · Building code updates being reviewed with a public meeting planned

     · Splash pad to open mid-June subject to the weather

Old Business

Alderman Potthoff asked for an update on the proposed rental property registration. Alderman

Sapienza stated he will follow-up and report back to the committee.

New Business

Fire Chief King reported on seeking bids for a new command vehicle. Chief King reported the

plan is to rotate the existing command vehicle down to Deputy Fire Chief Jim Duncan.

Chairman Waldorf made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Ballard seconded the

motion; motion carried.
