Streator Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on July 24.
The ceremony will take place at Plumb Pavilion in City Park and conclude the city’s sesquicentennial celebration. The opening of the time capsule will be set for April 8, 2043.
Committee members are looking for items to be placed in the capsule that will have interest to those in the future.
Suggested items would be things relating to this year’s celebration, current events, or things of timely interest that may be obsolete in 2043. Letters or gifts to loved ones, as well as promotional items from local businesses are also encouraged to be placed in the capsule. The capsule opened this year had several letters placed by parents and grandparents of children in 1993 that were returned to the family after the opening in April.
Contents of the time capsule that was buried in 1993 and opened at the beginning of this year’s celebration in April are now on display at Midland Bank at 201 E. Main St. in the window of the foyer.
Officials will accept donations at the Streator Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry office at 320 E. Main St. from Wednesday, Aug. 1, until Friday, Aug. 24.
