Peru Elementary School District 124 students suspended 60 times in a single school year

Peru Elementary School District 124 reported 60 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 60 students during the year. That equates to 6.5 percent of the 922 students enrolled.

Of the 34 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 34 incidents. For 34 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 26 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 25 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 19 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
