Streator Elementary School District 44 students suspended 418 times in a single school year

Streator Elementary School District 44 reported 418 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 418 students during the year. That equates to 25.6 percent of the 1,633 students enrolled.

Of the 367 in-school suspensions, 267 were given to boys and 100 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 334 incidents. There were 32 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 221 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 51 out-of-school suspensions, 41 were given to boys and 10 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 40 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
