MENDOTA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: Saturday Mammography Appointments Coming Soon in Bloomington

Mamogram

Mendota Community Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.

Starting October 6, OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center will begin offering mammography services on Saturdays by appointment. Saturday screenings will take place from 8am-noon.

To make an appointment for a screening, mammography patients should call (309) 661-5160. While Saturday appointments will only be available at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center (2200 E Washington St, Bloomington), OSF HealthCare also offers mammography services at OSF HealthCare Medical Group at College Avenue (1701 E College Ave, Bloomington) Monday - Friday.

According to the American Cancer Society, mammograms are considered to be the best tool to find cancers of the breast very early.

Women over 40 should talk with their health care provider on when the best time is to begin annual mammograms. If there is a strong family history of breast cancer, a mammogram may be ordered at an earlier age

Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam as part of a regular health exam by their health care provider, preferably every three years. Breast self-exam is also an option for women starting in their 20s.

Women should report any breast changes to their health professional right away.
