ILLINOIS VALLEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: What is Physical Therapy?

Physicaltheraphy

Illinois Valley Community Hospital issued the following announcement on Feb. 7.

Physical therapy is a dynamic profession focused on the enhancement, restoration, and preservation of optimal physical function and movement.

Physical therapists provide care to individuals of all ages from newborns to older adults with a variety of diagnoses in an array of settings. These settings include outpatient clinics, hospitals, home health agencies, private practices, schools, industrial settings, sports and fitness facilities, and nursing homes. Physical therapists are trained to examine and diagnose each individual patient to develop and appropriate treatment plan focused on improving mobility, decreasing pain, preventing disability, and restoring function. Physical therapists spend time educating their patients on how to manage their condition without surgery or the use of prescription medication to achieve long-term health benefits.
