ILLINOIS VALLEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: IVCH now offering Stryker's Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Total Joint Replacement Procedures

Illinois Valley Community Hospital issued the following announcement on Feb. 14.

Illinois Valley Community Hospital is proud to offer Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted technology for knee and hip replacement procedures. This latest advancement in joint replacement surgery is transforming the way joint replacement procedures are performed. Dr. Robert Mitchell of IVCH has been trained and certified for Mako and is scheduling patients now.

Robotic-arm assisted surgery is a new approach to joint replacement that offers the potential for a higher level of patient-specific implant alignment and positioning.1-3 The technology allows surgeons to create a patient-specific 3D plan and perform joint replacement surgery using a surgeon-controlled robotic arm that helps execute the procedure with a high degree of accuracy.4-5

“I am excited about using this new technology for total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements. Mako is changing the way these joint replacement surgeries are performed,” said Dr. Mitchell. “Using a virtual 3D model, the Mako System allows surgeons to personalize each patient’s surgical plan pre-operatively, so there is a clear plan for how the surgeon will position the implant before entering the operating room. During surgery, the surgeon can make any necessary adjustments.”

While IVCH believes this technology is a great advancement, our surgeons also recognize that it might not be the right choice for all patients. Individuals should consult with their own provider to determine the best course of treatment for their situation.

“This investment in new technology demonstrates our commitment to provide the community with outstanding healthcare,” said Tommy Hobbs, Chief Executive Officer at IVCH.

Patients interested in receiving more information on this new technology may contact Illinois Valley Orthopedics at 815.223.2143.
