City of Oglesby issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.
For three years, residents have turned our city into a sea of red, white and blue by sponsoring banners for servicemen and women. The support from the community has been overwhelming and a source of great pride. This year, the city will give back to the community by offering to rehang banners purchased in prior years.
Here’s how it will work: Residents will be able to enter the name(s) on their banners into a special lottery during the week of March 4 – 12th. The week of March 13, we will draw names and notify the winners. The winners will have until April 5 to bring their banner(s) to City Hall. Anyone who fails to supply a banner by April 5, will be replaced during a second drawing.
As with any program there are some rules:
1. We reserve the right to reject any banner that is dirty, faded, torn or unable to be hung properly.
2. Only one banner per serviceperson will be used. (If you have purchased banners for different people, you may enter all of them into the drawing.)
3. We will not honor requests for banner placement.
4. We are not responsible for banners that are lost or destroyed.
5. Banners will be hung as weather and department workload permits; we will do our best to have all banners up and in place by Memorial Day.
6. Banners will hang through Labor Day, and will be returned to the sponsor after removed.
We expect that support for this program will again be great, and that’s why we are offering a full week to get your name in to participate in the drawing. You may call, visit the office or use the coupon in the February newsletter to submit your entries.
