City of Princeton issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
Please join the Princeton Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 in the lower level of the Downtown Pub for an evening of bicycling information and instruction to improve your cycling pleasure and performance.
Representatives from Mead’s Bicycle Shop (Sterling) will present on topics that have been tailored to address specific issues that women have in bicycling. Regardless whether you’re a causal rider, a long distance touring rider, or a new to bicycling, there will be information of value to everyone.
There will be a cash bar and free appetizers available during the event. Time will be allowed after the presentation to network and ask further questions. While there is is no charge to attend, please RSVP by March 6 to Rachel Skaggs at rskaggs@pirnceton-il.com.
The topics will include:
HAVE A FIT. BICYCLE FIT FOR WOMEN
Proper fit on your bicycle is very important for comfort and performance. Women have more fit issues than men since the industry has traditionally designed for men. There are more bicycle designs and equipment which are women specific, but more needs to be done. Particularly when it comes to the equipment you already have. Learn what proper fit is, how it can improve your cycling experience, and how to optimize your bike.
CLOTHING AND SADDLES FOR COMFORT, FASHION, AND PERFORMANCE
Women's specific design is important in bicycles and it is just as important in clothing. From head to toe we will explain the value of bicycling specific clothing and how it can address problems that you may be experiencing so you can get the most out of cycling. Cycling clothing is fashion and function. Understand how it works and how you benefit from properly designed clothing.
THE ABCs OF CYCLING - AIR, BRAKES, CHAIN
Since flats are most riders biggest worry, and the most common mechanical problem, we will show you how easy it really is to overcome this common hurdle. This is a hands-on experience where you will actually change a tube. Additionally, you will learn how to check tire pressure and properly lubricate a bike chain.
