City of Princeton Public Arts Commission met April 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

1. Chairperson Cyndi Olson convened the meeting at 5:05 p.m.

Members present: Rick Brooks, Christine Coughlin, Marcie Jaggers, Karen Kling, Chuck Major, Cyndi Olson, Dave Taylor, Sallee Zearing. Absent: Dana Collins.

2. Minutes from April 4th meeting read. Marcie Jaggers motioned to approve minutes as read and Dave Taylor seconded, approved.

3. Cyndi brought to everyone’s attention that Dana Collins will roll o the commission.

Motion to approve the three current officers to continue on in their respective positions by Marcie Jaggers, seconded by Chuck Major, approved. Offcers for April 30, 2019 to April 30, 2020 are Cyndi Olson, chairperson; Rick Brooks, vice-chairperson and Karen Kling, secretary.

4. Unfinished Business:

• Mary Uthoff Memorial Walkway Mosaic Project. Update by Marcie. e city’s engineer’s advise on installation of shade cloth supports will be passed on to Je Mangrich, Superintendent of Electrical.

May 19th between 1-4 will be our Community build held in the walkway. Kim Frey of the Chamber of Commerce offered the Prouty building as a backup site if inclement weather.

This will be a free event for the community. We will have donation jars on tables.

We will need to provide 8 large tables and 40 chairs. Sallee has 4 tables; Karen, 1 table; Dave 1 table; Marcie, 1 table; the Prouty has 40 chairs. Marcie, Karen, Chris, Chuck and Dave will meet at the Prouty building at noon to move the chairs. We will still need one more large table.

Rick is talking to Jyll Murphy about supplying broken china for May 19th build. In addition, the community will be encouraged to bring their own china for the build.

Susan will provide information for us to use in our promotion of this build on social media, news release and ArtWORKS. Discussion ensued.

• Public relations talking points of the Mary Uthoff Memorial Walkway project. Cyndi will get Uthoff family contact information to update them on project. Marcie and Karen will inform adjoining stores of project and answer questions or address concerns of store owners.

• Fund raising for Mary Uthoff Memorial Walkway Mosaic Project. Discussed sponsorship/naming rights on the sofa, 2 chairs and table for this build. Marcie moved that we ask $2,000 for the sofa; $1,000 for each chair and table for a projected total of $5,000. Seconded by Dave. Rick abstained from voting. Approved.

Other fund raising discussed. Possible photo of donors for dfferent levels of giving taken at walkway. Chris recommended each commissioner examine how they might map donations before our May 19th event. Discussed how additional funds will be used once we reach our goal.

• Storefront window decoration update from Sallee. Painting continues. Pete Nelson asked how the installation will be mounted. Sallee told Pete it would be by heavy duty tape and we will remove all evidence of the installation when it comes down. Looking to install before end of May.

• Homestead Festival. Cyndi spoke with Laura Favia about our involvement in the festival. We would like to introduce the Princeton’s Art Commission at noon on Sunday in the walkway and have an official unveiling of the Mary Uthoff Memorial Walkway Mosaic Project at that time. We will determine what other activity will take place between noon and 3pm in the walkway.

• Cyndi discussed development of website for the group showing progress thus far. e website domain names are princetonpublicarts.com and princetonpublicarts.net. Discussion followed.

5. New Business

• Potential new projects suggested for commission to explore. Adding stars next to the Richard Widmark star in front of the Apollo eater celebrating artist with connections to or from the Princeton area. is would create a walk of fame. Discussion followed.

Cyndi spoke with Annette Schnabel, Chair of the bike commission about creating a partnership between our commissions to develop a design for bike racks to be placed around Princeton. Discussion followed.

Cyndi will work on press release and provide Marcie information for publication on our facebook page. Cyndi will forward release to commission prior to releasing to press.

Motion to adjourn by Marcie, Sallee seconded. Meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
