The data shows that 12 men and two women were released in Mendota. The median age of the parolees was 38. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced for a sex crime in 2015, and the oldest was a 57-year-old woman sentenced for a financial crime or fraud in 2017.
The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Brian Shumack. He was convicted of a property crime in 2014 when he was 41 years old. He is now 46.
Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
