City of Marseilles City Council met June 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council of the City of Marseilles met in the City Chamber of City Hall at the hour of 6:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Hollenbeck, Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer and Buckingham. Absent: None.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Lewey that the minutes from the Council meeting of May 15, 2019 be approved as displayed and placed on file. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the accounts payable for the last half of May in the amount of $128,370.20 be approved and a warrant be drawn on the City Treasury for the said amount. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Lewey that the payroll for the last half of May in the amount of $66,468.17 be approved and a warrant be drawn on the City Treasury for said amount. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Buckingham seconded by Commissioner Kaminski that the payment to Baxter and Woodman in the amount of $19,898.36 for the levee improvement project be approved. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Buckingham seconded by Commissioner Kaminski that the payment to D Construction in the amount of $260,940.47 for the levee improvement project be approved. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Lewey seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the home business license renewal for Wayne Long DBA Lost in the Hills Gun Shop be approved. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Lewey seconded by Commissioner Bucky that the home business license renewal for Raymond Lindley DBA Ray’s Small Engine Repair be approved. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Lewey seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the special events permit for Freedom Run to be held June 15, 2019 be approved and the permit fee be waived. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Lewey that Ordinance 1711, an ordinance granting a zoning map amendment for property of Rivers Edge Developers LLC be adopted. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None. Plan Commission meet 6/3/2019 to make a recommendation to the city council to make a map amendment for an industrial hemp farm. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that Ordinance 1712, an ordinance accepting bid and approving sale of property at 504 Wallace Street be adopted. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Mayor Hollenbeck encouraged residents to attend 2019 Freedom Run ceremony and enjoy the fest afterwards. Commissioner Lewey went over the rules of liquor on Main Street during the Freedom Fest event. Commissioner Schaefer said he was looking for volunteers to help clean planters on Main Street. Commissioner Buckingham said 28 names will be added to the Middle East memorial wall.

City Engineer Mike Etscheid said at the next council meeting 6/19/19 Fillebrowne Street will be awarded. Bids will be open 6/11/2019 at 10:00 A.M.

Rocky Raikes gave a update on the UTV’s he said the DNR is requiring anyone with a UTV permit to have a slow moving vehicle sign on the back.

A few residents from Walbridge Creek subdivision was present to discuss the 2.1% increase on their property taxes. They asked for a reduction in taxes until they have street lights, police coverage, maintained roads, etc. Mayor Hollenbeck said he is willing to sit with any homeowner to go over their concerns.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the City Council adjourns. Ayes: Commissioners Kaminski, Lewey, Schaefer, Buckingham, Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None
