Peru Elementary School District 124 Board of Education Technology Committee met April 4

Meeting 10

Peru Elementary School District 124 Board of Education Technology Committee met April 4.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

Present:    Rob Ankiewicz, Josanne Bruins, Patti Leynaud

Others Present:    Sherri Pannier and Mark Cross

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Rob Ankiewicz at 8:05 a.m.

      • Assistant Principal and District Technology Coordinator Sherri Pannier reviewed the district’s current communication tools as it relates to text messaging and emails with parents. This led to much discussion about what types of apps and communications work best at what grade levels. The district has made a considerable effort to consolidate its communication systems in the last one to two years, resulting in two primary methods which seem to work well. Board members who are also parents expressed their opinions on the communication systems as well. Ms. Pannier will continue her work with staff to develop future recommendations.

      • Ms. Pannier discussed the district’s E-Rate program, and how receiving federal E-Rate funds now primarily for equipment impacts the plans for hardware and network infrastructure purchasing. She pointed out that some of these anticipated numbers will be shown on the 2019-20 hardware recommendations that the committee will review.

      • This led to the committee’s review of the 2019-20 technology hardware recommendations. Ms. Pannier emphasized that these had been vetted by the staff technology committee as has been the district’s practice. The grand total cost of the recommendations as presented is $139,776 with infrastructure maintenance items included, $102,251 without infrastructure costs included and $117,261 maximum cost with infrastructure costs and assuming the district receives anticipated federal E-rate funding.

      • The items recommended for purchase include 42 access points and 4 switches for infrastructure items at Northview, along with 120 4th grade Chromebooks. Parkside items include 120 6th grade Chromebooks, 34 laptops for the computer lab, 4 for the STEM lab, 8 interactive Smart projectors, and 5 larger Chromebooks for the Life Skills program.

      • After reviewing the proposal, the committee determined that it would make a recommendation for the full Board of Education to approve the hardware purchases as presented. This recommendation will be presented to the Board at its April meeting.

Adjournment

The committee adjourned at 9:02 a.m.
