Bureau Valley Community Unit School District #340 Board of Education met June 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Yepsen called the budget hearing to order at 7:00 pm and directed the Secretary to call the roll.

ROLL CALL

PRESENT: Dye, Johnson, Maynard, Olds, Spencer, Wiggim, Yepsen

ABSENT: None

The amendment for the fiscal year 2019 budget for the Bureau Valley School District was presented. The amendments have been posted for 30 days.

The public was given an opportunity to ask questions, however none were received.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Johnson to adjourn the hearing at 7:05pm.

Determining that a quorum was present, President Yepsen called the regular meeting to order at 7:05 pm and directed the Secretary to call the roll.

ABSENT: None

During Building Reports, Doyle Johnston mentioned that the new pads have been installed in the high school gym and that new motors were installed on the bleachers. Vicki Litherland, BVHS Athletic Director, reported that numerous summer sports camps have been going on at the high school. She thanked the high school custodial staff for all their hard work helping with these summer camps.

Retirees were recognized: Sheila Heth, Jan Rodgers, Dean Bill, Dave Birkey, and Barb Metzger. Dale Donner, who is retiring from girls track, was honored as well.

There was no public comment.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Spencer to approve the consent agenda items:

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Dye to approve the FY19 Budget Amendment as presented.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Johnson to approve the following employees as signatories for district accounts at Peoples National Bank: Jason Stabler and Karen Sierens on BV CUSD 340 Imprest Checking account; Jason Stabler and Kim Jensen, Treasurer on BV CUSD 340 District checking account.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Johnson to approve the following employees as signatories for high school imprest and activity checking accounts at Peoples National Bank: Duane Price and Renee Hartz.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Dye to approve Risk Management Plan updates as presented.

It was moved by Wiggim and seconded by Spencer to approve the updates to the FY20 Public School Calendar as presented.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Dye to approve the implementation of the Latin Honors System to begin with the Class of 2023.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Johnson to approve the permanent transfer of $200,000 from Working Cash Bond to the education fund.

Justin Yepsen gave an update on the construction project. The project should be complete by July 26th. The Regional Office Of Education is coming to issue the final permits. The parking lot expansion should be done next week. The Edlefson property donation transaction should close this week. The district is also working with the Regional Office of Education regarding the Livestock building.

It was moved by Johnson and seconded by Wiggim to enter into executive session at 7:25 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity, Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees, Student disciplinary cases, or the setting of a price for sale or lease of property owned by the public body; and Discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for purposes of approval by the body of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Maynard to close the executive session at 8:15 p.m. and return to open session.

It was moved by Johnson and seconded by Spencer to approve and retain the executive session meeting minutes of May 28, 2019.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Wiggim to accept resignation of Sarah Tracey as BVS Special Education Teacher, Dale Donner as BVHS Girls Track Coach, Mim Ledergerber as BVHS Paraprofessional, Jenny Koser as BVN Kitchen Staff, and Trish Maynard as BVHS Kitchen Staff.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Wiggim to approve the employment of Melissa Smith as BV JH Special Education Teacher, Ashley Gutshall as BVHS Physical Education/Health Teacher, Sarah Peterson as BVHS Physical Education/Driver’s Education Teacher; Alicia Cole as BVHS Paraprofessional, Greg Saylor as BVHS Girls Head Softball Coach, Mat Pistole as BVHS Head Football Coach, and Kristie Cady as BVWE/BVN Principal.

It was moved by Johnson and seconded by Dye to approve the maternity leave for Sarah Kluever.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Spencer to approve the FY20 Wage Scale and Positions as presented.

Justin Yepsen then thanked Jason Spang for his time at Bureau Valley and also thanked Amber Harper for stepping in at interim superintendent.
