City of LaSalle Streets, Alleys and Traffic Committee met May 20.
Here is the minutes provided by the committee:
Chairman Bacidore called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.
Present- Alderman Bacidore, Alderman Ptak, Alderman Reynolds, Alderman Herndon, Alderman Jeppson
Absent- None
Others Present: Jeff Bumgarner
A quorum was present.
In regard to a request from Carolyn Entrician for the installation of a speed bump on the 2000 block of La Harpe Street near Baker. Alderman Herndon stated that he did speak to Mrs. Entrician about the request. She indicated that there are a fair amount of children in this area and cars tend to come around the curve at Baker and La Harpe at a good speed. Alderman Bacidore questioned how much traffic can actually come through there and expressed concerns about setting a precedent. He indicated that the stance in the past of the Streets, Alleys and Traffic committee has been to authorize speed bumps nears parks and schools.
Superintendent Bumgarner said speedbumps cost about $400 per section and are removed in the winter. Alderman Ptak suggested possibly making the speed bump temporary.
A motion was made by Alderman Herndon and seconded by Alderman Reynolds to grant the request to install the speed bump. Alderman Herndon, Reynolds and Ptak voted in favor. Alderman Jeppson voted against and Alderman Bacidore passed.
There were no comments or objections from the public.
