City of Peru Public Services Committee met Jan. 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Alderman Waldorf, Ferrari, Lukosus, Ballard present; Mayor Harl present.

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT: City Clerk Dave Bartley, Treasurer Jackson Powell, Alderman Radtke, Alderman Payton, Alderman Sapienza, Alderman Buffo, ASM Doug Bernabei, PSM Jeff King, City Engineer Eric Carls, Finance Officer Justin Miller, Human Resource Manager Kim Reese, Mike Perry of Chamlin and Associates and Chris Perra of T.E.S.T.

MINUTES

Alderman Waldorf made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting minutes of December 6, 2019. Alderman Lukosus seconded the motion; motion carried.

PRESENTATION

LaSalle Peru Township High School Superintendent Steve Wrobleski and Board President Tony Sparks addressed the committee regarding the Field of Dreams project. 

Superintendent Wrobleski outlined the following:

• Current field crown has diminished from 25 inches to 15 inches

• Options

o $100,000 to re-sod

o $450,000 complete re-do with new sprinkler system

o $1,000,000 for turf

• Advantages of turf field

o Access

o Student programs and gym class

o Other opportunities

• Plan to model after the LaSalle Sports Complex for the financing

o $250,000

o Freeze the increment in the TIF for ten years

Committee discussed repayment terms and make whole options.

Alderman Ferrari expressed his disappoint with LP baseball moving out of Peru to Oglesby without talking to the Council.

Alderman Waldorf ask why the school didn’t levy enough money to include the field of dreams project. Tony Sparks explained the school board’s focus was all about academics and not extracurriculars.

Mr. Elton Murphy of Peru Eagles addressed the committee asking for permission to hold a 4th of July parade to promote patriotism. Alderman Waldorf noted a request for no politicians in the parade. The Council was in favor and noted it would be a good project for the new recreation director.
