Princeton Township High School District #500 Board of Education met Dec. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Princeton High School Board of Education, District #500, met in Regular Session on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in the Learning Resource Center. Board Members present: Gary Hanna, Colleen Sailer, Terry Smallwood, Al Taylor, and John Young. Board Members

Absent: None. Also in attendance were Kirk Haring, Superintendent; Andrew Berlinski,

Principal; and Jeff Ohlson, Assistant Principal and Activities Director.

Colleen Sailer, President, called the Regular Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. following the Public Hearing. She welcomed guests and the media. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.

There was no Public Comment.

Consent Agenda

The Consent Agenda contained the Minutes from the November 25, 2019 Regular Meeting,

Monthly Bills and Treasurer’s Reports. Gary Hanna moved to approve the Consent Agenda  items as presented, seconded by John Young. The motion carried on a roll call vote: Al Taylor- yes, Terry Smallwood-yes John Young-yes, Gary Hanna-yes and Colleen Sailer-yes.

Education and Administration

Assistant Principal’s Report – Mr. Ohlson introduced the students-of-the-month for November:

Elana Martinez, Trent Kloepping, Cole Adams, Grant Foes, Victoria Segerstrom and Isabella Whitfield. These students were congratulated on receiving this honor, and the family support was recognized.

Mr. Ohlson’s report was reviewed. The attendance rate for November 15th through December 13th was 92%; and 91% in 2018-2019. There were 65 total disciplinary occurrences during the same period, compared to 69 total write-ups a year ago.

Activities Director Report - Mr. Ohlson’s report included Winter Sports participants, with 38 in Boys Basketball, 21 in Girls Basketball, and Wrestling has 21 participants.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Berlinski commended Cole Adams, Nathan Allen, Caleb Alter, Eli Crouch, Ryne Muehlschlegel, Hope Mueller, Elizabeth Orwig and Remi Rawlings on being named Illinois State Scholars. Plans for the January 6, 2020 Institute include many professional development activities, including a presentation on Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER for parents, counselors and educators to help teens build crucial skills to deal with stress, anxiety and depression. New course proposals for English 1001, English 1002, Western Civilization I,

Western Civilization II and Biology 1001 were reviewed.

Al Taylor made the motion, seconded by Gary Hanna, to approve the following appointments as presented:

Roll call: John Young-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, Gary Hanna-yes, Al Taylor-yes, and Colleen Sailer-yes. Motion passed.

Approval of Dual Course Proposals – The motion to approve the Dual Course Proposals as presented was made by Al Taylor, seconded by Terry Smallwood. On a roll call vote, the motion was unanimously approved.

Board of Education Policy Manual Update – Gary Hanna moved to approve the Board of Education Policy Manual updates as presented. Motion seconded by Terry Smallwood, and unanimously approved with a roll call vote.

Finance

2019 Tax Levy – The motion to approve the 2019 Tax Levy as presented was made by Gary Hanna, and seconded by John Young. Motion carried with a roll call as follows: Al Taylor-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, John Young-yes, Gary Hanna-yes, and Colleen Sailer-yes.

Executive Session

There was no Executive Session.

Other Business

No other business was discussed.

Adjourn

The motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:15 p.m. was made by Gary Hanna, seconded by John Young, and passed on a roll call vote unanimously approved.
