City of Princeton issued the following announcement on March 21.
The City of Princeton is taking these steps, within its control, to limit or slow the spread of the COVID-19 Virus and maintain regular communication updates for the use of the public. Those actions are:
City Hall will close its doors at noon on Monday, March 16, 2020 until March 29, 2020. Service requests to start utility service or cancel utility service, can be made by calling City Hall at 815-875-2631. Payments can be arranged by automatic debit by setting up the account at City Hall, on-line at: www.princeton-il.com, by phone, by drop box in the front of City Hall or in the alley behind City Hall.
Depending on the advancement of the virus at that time, this closure may be extended beyond March 29, 2020. An advanced announcement will be made prior to that date.
Due to the possibility of employment hardships in a few industries mandated to close for a period of time, the City of Princeton will suspend utility shut-offs and will suspend late fees and disconnection fees associated with paying those utility bills. Customers still will be liable for the payments of the utilities. This relief will be in effect at least until invoices incurred through April 30, 2020. Any extension will be announced prior to that date.
The Fire Department office will close its doors to the public at noon on Monday, March 16, 2020 until further notice. Further, the department will continue to answer 911 calls. Any person with a suspected infection of the COVID-19 virus should not call 911, but rather should call the Illinois Department of Public Health COVID-19 Hotline at: 800-889-3931 to get guidance on the next step in receiving care for that exposure. This Hotline is available 24/7.
The Police Department will respond only to emergency 911 calls, in order to limit exposure to the COVID-19 virus. They will handle as many non-emergency calls as time permits by calling 815-875-2631, ext. 1402 during business hours. After business hours, non-emergency calls through BueComm 815-872-1420.
The Prouty Building will close its doors to the public at noon on Monday, March 16, 2020 until further notice. All scheduled meetings for the building are cancelled. The Princeton Chamber of Commerce still will conduct business during normal business hours at 815-875-2616, but no access to the building will be permitted.
The City of Princeton will be providing a tab on the homepage of its website for the purpose of posting the latest developments of activities concerning the COVID-19 virus. The website is: www.princeton-il.com.
Again, these are just simple, controllable, measures in order to reduce the exposure of the virus to the citizens of Princeton and also to our staff members. We all will get through these unusual times.
