Princeton High School District #500 Board of Education met Feb. 26.

REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 26, 2020

The Princeton High School Board of Education, District #500, met in Regular Session on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, in the Learning Resource Center. Board Members present: Gary Hanna, Colleen Sailer, Terry Smallwood, John Young, and Al Taylor. Board Members Absent: none. Also in attendance were Kirk Haring, Superintendent; Andrew Berlinski, Principal; and Jeff Ohlson, Assistant Principal and Activities Director.

Colleen Sailer, President, called the Regular Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. She welcomed guests and the media. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance. There was no Public Comment.

Consent Agenda The Consent Agenda contained the Minutes from the January 22, 2020 Regular Meeting and Executive Session, Monthly Bills, Treasurer’s Reports, School Treasurer Bond, appointment of Christy Isaacson and Don Reuter to the ROE Annexation Board. Gary Hanna moved to approve the Consent Agenda items as presented, seconded by John Young. The motion carried on a roll call vote: Al Taylor-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, John Young-yes, Gary Hanna-yes, and Colleen Sailer-yes.

Education and Administration Assistant Principal’s Report – Mr. Ohlson stated the students-of-the-month for February were: Nicholas Chase, Kaelin Russelburg, Kaden Baker, Evan Lemon, Isa Ibarra and Elijah Crouch. These students were commended on this honor, and the importance of the family contributions was recognized.

Mr. Ohlson’s report was reviewed. The attendance rate for January 15th through February 19th was 90%; and 92% in 2018-2019. There were 119 disciplinary write-ups during the same period, compared to 40 occurrences a year ago.

Activities Director Report - Mr. Ohlson’s report recapped results in Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling, and Scholastic Bowl.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Berlinski stated Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 27th and 28th, PHS was represented by Elizabeth Orwig and Nathan Allen at the recent Illinois Principals Association Breakfast. The Guidance Department has finished the Registration process and begun creating the Master Schedule. The IVCC Dual-Credit Coordinator will make a presentation on February 27th on the Dual-Credit courses/IVCC requirements. The video, Screenagers: Next Chapter, will be shown to the public on March 10th.

Personnel John Young made the motion, seconded by Gary Hanna, to approve the following appointments as presented:

Tony Brucker Volunteer Baseball Coach Jason Hecht Volunteer Softball Coach Rob Jensen Assistant Boys Track Coach

Roll call: Al Taylor-yes, Terry Smallwood-yes, Gary Hanna-yes, John Young-yes, and Colleen Sailer-yes. Motion passed.

School Calendar – Mr. Haring reviewed a draft of the 2020-2021 calendar. Action on the calendar will take place at the March meeting.

Seniority List – The motion to approve the certified and non-certified seniority list was made by Al Taylor with a second by Gary Hanna. On a roll call vote, the motion was unanimously approved.

Executive Session There was no Executive Session.

Other Business Mr. Haring explained Marquis Energy has made a request to develop a mentoring program at PHS. More information will be forthcoming.

Adjourn The motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:15 p.m. was made by Gary Hanna, seconded by John Young, and passed on a roll call vote unanimously approved.
