LaSalle Alderman Jim Bacidore recently expressed frustration with other members of the City Council over the request to pay $12,500 to the North Central Illinois Economic Development Corp. (NIEDC).
According to WLPO, Bacidore claimed that in two years as a member of the NIEDC, the city has seen none of the promised economic benefit of membership.
"Two years. Not a factory. Not a machine shop – not even a machine shed," he said.
With the additional challenges presented in a post-COVID-19 world, Bacidore said he does not expect that performance to improve.
"Corona is out there, the virus, so nobody's going to be building factories for a year," he said. "So, we're going to give these people another $12,500."
Bacidore said that he doesn't think any industry is going to do any kind of major investment in new infrastructure until a cure or vaccine is found for the coronavirus.
