PRESENT VIA PHONE: Olds

ABSENT: Johnson, Yepsen

There was no public comment. The Board did not move to executive session.

Discussion was held regarding the track resurfacing bids. Mr. Brad Bickett, BVHS Athletic Director, was also present. Midwest Construction Professionals are helping with this project. Bids were opened on July 21st. Two bids were received for the track surface: Track Surfaces and Midwest Track Builders. One bid was received for the asphalt: McDonald Asphalt. The bids had optional components that could be removed. For example, the high jump pit area could wait, but it is most cost effective to have it done now with the rest of the project. McDonald would put a 1 inch overlay over the existing long jump and triple jump runs to even it out. It is currently uneven. They would also apply overlay to the new long jump runs that were paid for by the Boosters. Mr. Bickett pointed out that this would give us 4 pits which will be helpful when high school and junior high are using the same area for practices. Placing a logo on the track would be extra money. Board members discussed this at length. Mr. Bickett mentioned that other schools our size do not have logos on the home stretch of the track. Board members thought the extra money could be used for other things. Money for the track would be coming from the working cash building bonds. Mr. Stabler explained that the base bid could be accepted with the logo option, but a change order could be placed later opting out of the logo placement. In general, board members were not in favor of a logo on the track. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Wiggim to approve the track surface bid of Midwest Track Builders of $191,475 and the asphalt bids of McDonald Asphalt of $7,025 and $9,532.50.
