City of Peru Public Services Committee met Aug. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Aldermen Waldorf, Ferrari, Lukosus, Ballard present; Mayor Harl present.

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT: City Clerk Dave Bartley, Alderman Radtke, Alderman Payton, Alderman Sapienza, Alderman Buffo, ASM Doug Bernabei, PSM Jeff King, City Engineer Eric Carls, Finance Officer Justin Miller

MINUTES

Alderman Waldorf made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting minutes of June 8, 2020. Alderman Lukosus seconded the motion; motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT 

None

WATER & SEWER

City Engineer Eric Carls initiated a discussion regarding the 2nd Improvements Program. City Engineer Eric Carls noted he reviewed the historical information regarding the brick requirements. City Engineer Eric Carls stated he believes the course of action is to rebid the project as asphalt. Alderman Lukosus asked if residents have been contacted regarding their preference. City Engineer Eric Carls stated no. City Engineer Eric Carls noted a potential savings on the 6th Street project by not harvesting the brick. City Engineer Eric Carls recommended tabling the motions for the project on the regular agenda.

ELECTRIC

Alderman Lukosus complimented the Electric Department and Public Works Department on their team efforts on the August 10, 2020 derecho. Alderman Waldorf agreed.

LANDFILL 

None

AIRPORT

City Engineer Eric Carls reported the John Pohar and Sons drainage project contracts for the airport are being finalized. City Engineer Eric Carls stated he is working with IL Division of Aeronautics to close out projects.

CEMETERY

PSM Jeff King reported there are a lot of trees down in the cemetery.

PARKS & RECREATION

Finance Officer Justin Miller on a communication from the United Way requesting use of Washington Park and Splash Field for a COVID-19-safe kick-off event for their fundraising season.

CODE ENFORCEMENT

City Engineer Eric Carls reported on the record amount of building permits this season.

ENGINEERING

City Engineer Eric Carls reported there will be modifications to the building code pertaining to pools and fencing based on complaints and inconsistences with inflatable pools.

City Engineer Eric Carls reported on the following projects:

• 7th Street

o Moving along with sidewalks and curbs

• Area 1 Phase

o Complaints noted and leaning on contractor to follow up quicker regarding job site conditions

• Peoria Street Widening

o Starting some paving

o 6-8 weeks away from being utilized in part

• Plank Road Closure

o Closure to last 2-3 weeks

• Police Station

o Moving along nicely

• Unytite Drive

o East bound lane of Unytite Drive is complete; west bound lane will be complete next week

• General Fund Street Program th o Starting soon

• 6 Street Project

o Starting soon

City Engineer Eric Carls compiling a list of curb and sidewalks for consideration.

Alderman Lukosus asked for property code updates. Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert reported all three Trollinger properties have closed and near final.

Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert reported on plans for demolition on the Tiki property.

Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert reported on the Pulaski Street proceedings and stated the property should be in the city’s possession by October.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS 

None

OLD BUSINESS

Mayor Harl stated he has received several calls regarding the city owned parking lot located behind Debo’s Ace Hardware and asked for committee input on what to do with it.

Mayor Harl stated the city should know soon what senior housing project was approved to receive tax credits by the state.

Mayor Harl asked for input on the Fulton Street property. Mayor Harl noted the Council had previously agreed to purchase the property.

NEW BUSINESS 

PSM Jeff King reported on the following August 10th storm related emergency purchases:

• light poles

• wire

• damaged score board at Splash Field 

• overtime

Chairman Lukosus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Waldorf seconded the motion; motion carried.
