Coal City FPD responds to 66 fires in 2018

Coal City Fire Protection District responded to 138 calls in 2018 - 15.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Coal City included 66 fires - 39 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 23 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $303,500 in fire loss - or about $4,598 per fire.

The department also received 71 false calls, including one malicious call and 70 other false calls.

The Coal City Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,040,052 in 2018.

The Coal City Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has nine active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $23,058 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $268 for every fire in 2017.
