Waltham C.C. Elementary School District #185 Board of Education met Aug. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Board President Jim McCabe called the ZOOM Waltham Elementary School Board meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.

Roll Call: Board Members present: Skip DeMaso, Jason Depenbrock, Kathy Jereb, Nicole Mertes, Brian Shofner, and Jim McCabe.

Board Members Absent: Buffy Hoskins (arrived at 6:13 p.m.)

Also Present: Mrs. Kristine Eager, Superintendent, and Mrs. Melanie Lukacsy, Principal

Pledge of Allegiance: All

Visitors: Karin Kummer (Teacher Rep), Nina Mitchell (Instructional Coach), Brittany Yeruski, and Allison Nichols (Waltham Parents)

Approval of Consent Agenda: Skip DeMaso moved, second by Jason Depenbrock to approve:

Minutes of the Meetings of:

July 15, 2020-Regular Board,

Tabled the Executive Sessison Minutes of July 15, 2020,

District Bills,

Treasurer’s Report,

Approve Payment of Bills,

Salary & Benefit Report.

Roll Call Vote: “Yeas” –Skip DeMaso, Jason Depenbrock, Buffy Hoskins, Kathy Jereb, Nicole Mertes, Brian Shofner, and Jim McCabe. “Nays” – None. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

Reports, Updates and Informational Items:

1. Facilities: Mrs. Eager reported: received occupancy for the shed; gym floor has spots fixed; parking lot addition finished; landscapers to start adding plants and will monitor the trees; installing bottle filling stations on the main water fountains; and received the compensation from both trucking companies for the damage that was done.

2. Enrollment: 181

3. COVID Update: Planning stages in place, more desks ordered, more spacing on the buses.

4. Tentative FY2021 Budget: Very tentative, but pretty realistic.

5. Amended School Calendar: Amended due to the delayed start.

6. Resolution for Remote Learning: Suggested by the attorneys, more of a formality.

7. Mask Policy 7:101-1st Reading: Suggested by our attorneys and through guidance from IDPH.

8. MOU for Pera: Due to the situation this year, it will be difficult to evaluate the teachers.

9. PRESS Policies-1st Reading: Suggested changes by IASB.

Other: Reminder the Virtual IASB fall meeting will be September 29, 2020.

Action Items Prior to Executive Session:

7.1 Approve Tentative FY2021 Budget: Jason Depenbrock moved, second by Buffy Hoskins to approve the Tentative FY2021 Budget. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.2 Set FY2021 Budget Hearing: Nicole Mertes moved, second by Brian Shofner to set Wednesday, September 21, 2020 at 5:45 pm as the FY2021 Budget Hearing. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.3 Approve Amended 2020-2021 School Calendar: Buffy Hoskins moved, second by Brian Shofner to approve the Amended 2020-2021 School Calendar. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.4 Approve Resolution for Remote Learning: Brian Shofner moved, second by Buffy Hoskins to approve the Resolution for Remote Learning. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.5 Waive 2nd Reading of Mask Policy 7:101: Brian Shofner moved, second by Nicole Mertes to waive

the 2nd Reading of Mask Policy 7:101. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.6 Waive 2nd Reading of PRESS Policies: Kathy Jereb moved, second by Brian Shofner to waive 2nd Reading of PRESS Policies. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

7.7 Approve the MOU for PERA: Buffy Hoskins moved, second by Skip De Maso to approve the Memo of Understanding for PERA contingent on ISBE rules and union approval. Motion carried with 6 yeas, 1 nay.

Executive Session: Jason Depenbrock moved, second by Brian Shofner to adjourn to Executive Session to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, performance or dismissal of specific personnel, review of minutes lawfully closed, and the Executive Session minutes from July 15, 2020 at 7:02 p.m. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(14)

Closed Session Roll Call: Skip DeMaso, Jason Depenbrock, Buffy Hoskins, Kathy Jereb, Nicole Mertes, Brian Shofner, and Jim McCabe.

Motion to Return to Open Session: Brian Shofner moved, second by Jason Depenbrock to return Regular Session at 7:29 p.m. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

9.1 Review of January to June, 2020 Executive Session Minutes: Buffy Hoskins moved, second by Brian Shofner that Executive Session minutes from January - June, 2020 remain confidential and therefore closed to public inspection. Motion carried with 7 yeas, and 0 nays.

9.2 Resignation: Buffy Hoskins moved, second by Brian Shofner to accept, with regret, the resignation of Mrs. Brenda Kirsteatter as Paraprofessional effective August 4, 2020. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

9.3 Employment: Brian Shofner moved, second y Skip DeMaso to approve the employment of Mrs. Jennifer Harmon as Paraprofessional for the 2020-2021 school year with salary as per the FY21 ESP Salary Schedule. Motion carried with 7 yeas, 0 nays.

Motion to Adjourn: Skip DeMaso moved, second by Brian Shofner to adjourn at 7:31 p.m. Motion carried with 7 yeas, and 0 nays.
