Q2 2020 Recap: Parolees in LaSalle County convicted of crimes against children

There were two offenders convicted of crimes against children released on parole in LaSalle County during the second quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Illinois Valley Times.

The data shows that both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes against children was 27. The younger parolee was a 24-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 29-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Gary Powell. He was convicted in 2019 when he was 28 years old. He is now 29.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
