1. 2020 Levy and 2021-22 Budget

Mr. Stecken and Dr. Carlson presented the tentative 2020 Levy, its corresponding FY 22 budget, and the timelines for each. The Levy will be decreased. A Truth in Taxation Hearing is unlikely given the value of LaSalle Station has will not increase per the agreement with Exelon. In fact, the aggregate tax rate will decrease to $1.74838. The big picture budget is balanced and calls for an increase to IMRF to pay down the unfunded liability. The levy and budget will be tweaked over the next month and will be presented to the board in tentative form at the November meeting and adopted in December. 2018-19 Year End Information

1. Staff Replacement/Succession Planning

Dr. Carlson gave an overview of the planned timeline to replace the retiring superintendent, principal, English Teacher, and Spanish Teacher. The Board will likely announce the next superintendent and principal at its December meeting. The administration is investigating the possibility of hiring one teacher that is able to teach both ELA and Spanish. A discussion was made about hiring an Assistant Activities Director for the 21-22 school year to be mentored by Mr. Haines. The plan is the new Activities Director will also be required to teach.

2. Medicare and HSA

Dr. Carlson shared that an employee is unable to receive the Board Health Savings Account contribution because the employee takes Medicare as well as district insurance. Medicare rules prohibit an individual from participating in an HSA. The Board agreed to allow the employee to receive an additional flex amount in sum of $2,000 as an alternative.

3. Co-Curricular List Update

Dr. Carlson explained that the abbreviated class period schedule used during the pandemic has made it impossible for the freshman boys basketball coach to practice during an early slot, as the individual is employed outside of the district. The Activities Director and the Head Boys Basketball Coach are investigating adding John Struck as a volunteer coach to mitigate the issue. It is possible that a change may have to be made in coaching assignments due to the current freshman coach having a work conflict.
