CITY OF LASALLE: La Salle Library Is Switching To Curbside Checkout

Books

City of Lasalle issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

More than a Building… Your Library is Open for Business!

Because the safety of our patrons and our staff is most important to us, the LaSalle Public Library has returned to convenient curbside checkout, but that’s not all that your 21st century library offers! Our building might be closed but the Library’s services are endless.

Beginning Wednesday, November 18th, the Library is switching to curbside service only for the circulation of library materials. To request books, DVDs, audiobooks or other library materials available from our physical collection, please call the Library at 815-223-2341 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If the item or items are available, staff will arrange a convenient pick-up time that fits your schedule. Also, patrons will be able to arrange for curbside pick-up on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Staff will also be available to provide reader advisory.

Presently, Interlibrary Loan service is available through PrairieCat and the Library is receiving daily deliveries to fill patron holds. Again, please call 815-223-2341 to arrange a pick-up time. In addition to access to Library materials, the staff is available to help you with any reference/informational questions over the phone or online. Limited computer access for patrons who need to print from the Library computer or who need to complete an unemployment form or job application, can be arranged. Please call the Library at 815-223-2341 to arrange a convenient time.

Need copies? This is easy to arrange with curbside. Ditto for fax sending and receiving.

If you’re not quite sure what you want to check out, just call the Library at 815-223-2341. Let staff know what you’re looking for, for example, a book bundle for a five-year-old who loves dinosaurs, or cookbooks and holiday craft ideas for family activities at home. For yourself, do you feel like you’ve read everything by your favorite authors? Tell staff your favorites and let them get you a few “read-alikes” that can start you on a new path.

Everything that applies to books applies to movies, too. Library returns are easy, convenient, and touchless – patrons are asked to return all materials in the outdoor book returns in the drive-up lane.

Maybe you’re new to e-books, or, you may like to learn how to use Libby to make your e-book experience easier, or you’d like to download audio books to your device, or perhaps technology is not working the way you expected – call a LaSalle Public Library staffer. We’ll talk you through it and get you ready to enjoy your online books.

Do your children need leveled readers, Accelerated Reader materials or materials in Spanish? Do you have a reluctant reader who needs “just the right book” to become an engaged reader, or an emergent reader – let Library staff recommend books that not only will be of interest but will support your reader’s fluency, vocabulary and comprehension; let staff pair those books with audio materials to provide your reader with “model” reading to help support and improve fluency.

Would you like resources and tips for you to help your child read, or to teach your child STEM principles? Just ask! From print resources to online, to apps, count on your Library to help.

Are you looking for educational materials for your child’s virtual learning? If you have already explored the many sites posted on the Library’s Facebook page, then let staff know what you are looking for – we will be happy to help.

How about educational sites for you? From TED Talks, to virtual tours to citizen science, Library staff curates sites and information, and can locate great online destinations for you and your family.

Do you have a question that might be answered from the Library’s local history archives, or a reference question? Do you need information from the newspaper? When you talk to Library staff you’ll know you made the right call.

Programming, of course, hasn’t stopped! Free, live virtual programming is as easy as clicking on a link. The Library hosts a diverse schedule of online programs – from armchair travel to gardening, author talks to hobbies and crafts, history and biography programs, and unique presentations that blend science and the humanities, for example, NASA’s “Women in Space” and the unusual “Pioneer Plants” – this one coming in January.

To stay up-to-date on everything that the Library offers, visit the Library’s website at www.lasalle.lib.il.us or via Facebook at LaSalle Public Library. There, you’ll find news, activities, interesting ideas, stories, destinations and Library assistance. Or call the Library at 815-223-2341.
