U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) voted with Trump more than 90% of the time, but his recent public critical statements about the former president and the GOP have opened him up to criticism from Trump Republican Party supporters.

Earlier this month, NBC News reported that Kinzinger called on Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to resign as he is investigated for alleged involvement in sex trafficking of a minor and other criminal offenses. Gaetz has not been charged and admits no wrongdoing.

"Matt Gaetz needs to resign," he said, NBC News reported.

Newsweek also recently wrote about a tweet of Kinzinger's that called Trump "classy as always" after multiple reports that the ex-commander-in-chief called U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) "a dumb some of a bitch" for not doing more to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Trump claimed widespread fraud as the reason for his failed reelection bid, despite not such evidence existing.

"I remember when my fellow Republicans would have condemned this stuff, but that was a whole four years ago," Kinzinger wrote in an April 10 tweet.

In March, Peoria activist Gary McCullough told Peoria Standard that Kinzinger out to be removed from office after allegations of a volatile romantic relationship between the representative and a Russian intern candidate.

Kinzinger was one of nine Republicans to vote in favor of Trump's second impeachment after the insurgence at the Capitol in January that many have alleged Trump incited. Newsweek further reported that Kinzinger has tweeted against Trump multiple times, calling the former commander-in-chief "a man desperate for relevance but feeling the changing tides" and someone who "demands loyalty and gives none."

Despite the Republican's recent history of hostility toward Trump, Kinzinger agreed with the former president's legislative positions the vast majority of the time; according to FiveThirtyEight, Kinzinger voted in line with Trump's positions a staggering 90.2% of the time during his time in office.
