Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:
1) Chairperson Karen Kling convened the meeting at 5:02 p.m.
2) Members present: Marcie Jaggers, Rick Brooks, Karen Kling, Chuck Major, Dave Taylor, Sallee Zearing, Sheila Harrison, Kathy Ballard
Other representatives: Hector Gomez
3) Minutes from March 23, 2021 meeting read. Karen Kling motioned to approve minutes and approval was seconded by Sheila Harrison. Approved.
4) Unfinished Business
a) Homestead Festival – Dave Taylor reported that he spoke with Rick Clary. The Homestead Committee is moving forward with their plans and does not need any further support from the Commission.
b) Mary Uthoff Walkway – Karen Kling will forward contact information for Pete Nelson and Theresa Wittenauer to Ray Paseka so that delivery and installation of the sign can be completed.
c) Columbus Street – Sallee Zearing reported that changing the street name for the full length of Columbus Street would be problematic, since it would impact addresses for multiple homes and businesses. The naming focus should concentrate on the walkway itself.
There was general discussion of ideas, which will be consolidated into a brief e-mail of suggestions and questions to be forwarded to the City. The Commission hopes to get a fuller understanding of the City’s proposal so that any recommended art supports the overall goals of the project.
d) Grants and Rural Regenerator Fellowship – There is an informational Zoom meeting Thursday, April 29, which will provide more information on this opportunity. Rick Brooks and Sheila Harrison will report back with suggestions on whether or not this is something the Commission would want to pursue.
e) Potential partnership with Historical Commission on poster celebrating Princeton – Sallee Zearing reported that, since the Homestead Committee is concerned about competing promotions, this idea will be tabled for now.
f) Terms expiring and election of officers – Terms are expiring for Marcie Jaggers, Dave Taylor and Karen Kling. Karen and Marcie have agreed to continue in their roles. Dave will be leaving the Commission, with the thanks of his fellow Commissioners for his work.
Officers for next year were nominated by Rick Brooks. Nominations were seconded by Marcie Jaggers. The Commission unanimously approved the following roles: Chair – Karen Kling
Vice Chair – Chuck Major
Secretary – Sheila Harrison
5) New Business - None
6) Motion to adjourn by Karen Kling, Marcie Jaggers seconded. Approved. Meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
