Chairman Bacidore discussed the issue with resurfacing the portion of Wright Street, north of Fourth Street up to the alley, rather than the alley, between 4th, 5th, Marquette and Gooding Streets.
Alderman Demes disagreed with this suggestion because the city already agreed to follow through with the alley between 4th and 5th Street, between Marquette and Gooding. Alderman Demes and the Mayor already spoke with Scott Shore from the Temple Congregation about the drainage problems they were having. This project was already in line from last year when they were unable to do it. The city did a similar repair with St. Patrick’s Church with similar issues. Mr. Shore came forward and spoke for the Temple. Mr. Shore is the Secretary, Treasurer and Handyman of the Temple Congregation. They have had significant water damage along the north wall along the alley. The downstairs serves as a meeting room, social hall, and conference room. There has been so much water coming in from the alley that it rotted out the entire basement wall. There was mold on the surface and behind. Key Construction from Princeton was hired to take the wall out and replace it with cement board. They have done this to protect from further seepage.
Mr. Shore broke down what was spent over the last few years. Fiscal year ‘19 they replaced the roof and guttering (cost ~$12,700). Fiscal Year ‘20 they reconstructed downstairs and added additional curb outside (cost ~$4,600 + $4,200). Fiscal Year ‘21 they tuck pointed, added 4 more inches of curb and asphalt patch (cost ~$8,885). Mr. Shore worked to reroute neighbor gutters to Gooding. The Temple has interviewed contractors to see if an interior drainage system would be necessary down the road. Brian Brown spoke about how it is a steep hillside, and he advised the Temple to put that additional 4 inches to give flexibility to the city on the height of the asphalt and allowing it to drain away. Mr. Shore stated that it appears it is related to surface waters. The seepage is focused on the NE corner now and is wet every time.
Alderman Demes asks for the city to honor their commitment.
Moved by Alderman Ptak and seconded by Alderman Jeppson alley as originally planned, the alley, between 4th, 5th, Marquette and Gooding Streets.
