Village of Diamond Village Board met Sept. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The scheduled meeting of the Diamond Village Board was held at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor Teresa “Terry” Kernc presiding. Upon roll call Commissioner’s present were Mark Adair, Dean Johnson, Jeff Kasher and Dave Warner. Face masks along with social distancing was required.

Approval of 09-14-2021 Minutes

MOTION was made by Commissioner Warner, SECOND by Commissioner Kasher to approve the 09/14/2021 minutes and place on file. All Ayes: Motion Carried.

Approval of September 28, 2021, Bill List

MOTION was made by Commissioner Johnson, SECOND by Commissioner Adair to approve the September 28, 2021, bill list and place on file. All Ayes: Motion Carried.

Public Comment

Jan Berta was in attendance. She had a concern with the crosswalk signal at Berta Road and IL Route 113. Mayor Kernc stated a resident had contacted the village regarding the issue. Kernc reached out to D Construction, and they stated it is malfunctioning and a part has been ordered to fix it.

New Business

Approve Sewer Credit in the amount of $251.52 for 20 N. Daly St.

Mayor Kernc stated this was discussed at the previous board meeting. This was a groundwater leak in the crawl. MOTION was made by Commissioner Kasher, SECOND by Commissioner Warner to Approve Sewer Credit in the amount of $251.52 for 20 N. Daly St. All Ayes: Motion Carried.

Discuss/Approve Trick or Treat Hours 4:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021 Mayor Kernc stated Halloween is on Sunday, October 31, 2021, and would like to keep the hours the same as last year. MOTION was made by Commissioner Warner, SECOND by Commissioner Adair to Approve the Trick or Treat Hours for Sunday, October 31, 2021, from 4:00pm-6:00pm. All Ayes: Motion Carried.

Public Works Department Updates

Acting Public Works Supervisor Jim Dunning stated he contacted a company to purchase the rock salt and the cost is $130.00 ton. Dunning stated the State cancelled all the road salt bids and is placing it out to re-bid. The supply for this will be on high demand and the prediction is that shortages could occur therefore, Mayor Kernc stated she would like the village to purchase 3 loads from on outside source to have extra on hand and ration the supply we have. Dunning will reach out to Grundy County regarding the rebid process to see where the bids stand. Dunning stated the lift station pumps are in place and the old pump will be retro fitted so there will be a spare pump for the lift station at Burt Estates. The fence has been installed and the WWTP and the cameras are scheduled to be installed on Friday. The Public Works department is working on a watermain project on Berta Road. Commissioner Kasher inquired about the news doors at the WWTP. Dunning stated they are on order and scheduled to arrive the end of October beginning of November. Dunning added Public Works employee Larry Grachan is doing a great job. He worked the weekend for the lift stations/plant checks. Dunning add, Grachan always goes above and beyond whatever task he is given to do.

Commissioner Kasher

Commissioner Kasher stated the driveway issue on Laura Lane has been addressed. The concrete was sanded, and pressure washed. Kasher spoke to the homeowner, and she said she was happy with the completed work. Kasher stated Dunning and Grachan will caulk and seal the driveway as soon as possible.

Mayor Kernc

Mayor Kernc stated the Kankakee Water Alliance is moving forward. Additional letters of engagement are being submitted. There are several other communities showing an interest in joining. The more communities involved will make the cost more reasonable to all in the Alliance. Kernc spoke to Commissioner Adair about a possible splash pad for the village hall park. She will provide information for him to look over.
