State Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) on Nov. 18 announced his re-election bid through a Facebook post.
“Serving as your state representative is the honor of a lifetime, and I am excited to launch my re-election campaign to continue working on behalf of district residents,” Welter said in the post. “A representative’s main responsibility is to advocate for the economic interests of the district. Earlier this year, we were able to protect local jobs, home values, and critical funding for (the) area school district by passing legislation to strengthen Illinois’ reputation as a prominent energy-producing state.”
At the start of this year, Welter outlined a few goals, including making Illinois a place that people want to stay. The other big goal was defeating COVID-19, according to Grundy Reporter.
“Illinois presently ranks second in the nation for people leaving for lower taxes and better opportunities elsewhere,” Welter said, according to the Grundy Reporter. “Our priority in 2021, in tandem with overcoming the pandemic, must be to reverse this trend by making Illinois more competitive for job creators and more affordable for families and seniors.”
He has also taken a stance on the need to clean up corruption in state government. He is part of the group of Republicans to support the Reimagine Illinois campaign, according to the Illinois Valley Times.
“Illinois House Republicans have reimagined an Illinois free of corruption and with responsible fiscal leadership,” the Reimagine Campaign website states. “An Illinois where jobs are plentiful and all our neighborhoods are safe. We invite you to take a tour of our reimagined Illinois and if you agree it’s time for a change, sign our petition.”
In September, he opened a second office in Yorkville, according to Kendall County Times.
“I am proud to have the only legislative office in Kendall County to serve local families and taxpayers at a convenient location,” Welter said, per the Kendall County Times. “I welcome you to stop by to share your feedback on legislation or state issues in general, or if you need assistance with a state agency or program. My staff and I look forward to serving you in the heart of Kendall County.”
