Bureau Valley Community Unified School District 340 Board met Sept. 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Determining that a quorum was present, President Yepsen called the Budget Hearing to order at 6:00pm and directed the Secretary to call the roll.

ROLL CALL

PRESENT IN PERSON: Maynard, Olds, Spencer, VanLanduit, Yepsen

ABSENT: Johnson,Wiggim

The FY22 Tentative Budget was reviewed. Superintendent Jason Stabler reported that there is a deficit in the Transportation Fund. Due to increased EAV and decreased enrollment, the district receives less from the state for Transportation. This deficit can be offset from other funds. No public input was received.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Spencer to adjourn the Budget Hearing at 6:05 pm.

President Yepsen then called the regular meeting to order at 6:05 pm and directed the Secretary to call the roll.

Mr. Stabler recognized Jade Aber. Jade was the 2021 State Triple Jump Champion at the state track meet in May. Mr. Stabler also thanked AgView FS for their donation of $5,350 from their Fuel Our Future Program. AgView FS customers can apply for the fuel card and then a percentage of the sales is donated to Bureau Valley.

There was no public comment.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by VanLanduit to enter into executive session at 6:15 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; Student disciplinary cases and other matters related to individual students and litigation when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent and Discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for purposes of approval by the body of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by Maynard to close the executive session at 7:00 p.m. and return to open session.

During Building Reports, Mr. Duane Price, BVHS Principal, reported that eligibility numbers have improved with the return to in person learning. Mrs. Julie Platz, BV Elementary/JH Principal, reported that the mentor labs have begun. Seventeen students are mentoring other students under the direction of Amy Knapp. Mrs. Kristie Cady, BV Walnut and Wyanet Principal, recognized BV Art Teacher Susan Berry for having her own artwork displayed in Rockford.

It was moved by VanLanduit and seconded by Spencer to approve the consent agenda items:

3. Monthly Financial and Treasurer’s Reports

4. Bureau Valley #340 Bills and Payroll

It was moved by Olds and seconded by VanLanduit to approve the FY22 Budget as presented.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Spencer to approve the board policy updates as presented.

Mr. Price reported that after polling the senior class, they chose to have an outdoor graduation ceremony. The rain date will be May 22nd. Mrs. Platz reported that the 8th grade promotion ceremony may be outdoors, but that detail will be determined at a later time. It was moved by

Maynard and seconded by VanLanduit to approve the graduation dates as follows: BVHS graduation will be Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 1:30pm and 8th grade promotion will be Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 7:00pm.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Olds to approve and retain the executive session meeting minutes of August 23, 2021.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Spencer to approve employment of April Roth as BVHS Special Education Teacher, Allen Jensen as BVHS Cafeteria Staff, Whitney Peck as BVHS Paraprofessional, Rita Hanna as Part Time Grant Bookkeeper, Brandon Lancaster as BV JH Drama Sponsor and Corrine Guier and Colleen Coyle as BV Bus Drivers.

It was moved by Olds and seconded by VanLanduit to approve the maternity leave request of Alyssa Daley.

Mr. Yepsen announced that the following resignations had been received since the August 23rd board meeting: Rachel Harris as BVHS Paraprofessional and Steven Foster as BV Maintenance Director.

It was moved by Maynard and seconded by Olds to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
