City of Oglesby City Council met Dec. 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

A Regular Meeting Of The Oglesby City Council Was Held At City Hall. The Meeting Was Called To Order At 7:00 P.M.

Present: Commissioners Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Lijewski, Mayor Rivara, Attorney Barry And Asst City Clerk Eichelkraut.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY LIJEWSKI, SECONDED BY CURRAN to approve the regular meeting minutes from December 6, 2021. AYES: ARGUBRIGHT, CULLINAN, CURRAN, LIJEWSKI, RIVARA.

Public comments on agenda items only: Jill Shevokas, Library Director, addresses the Mayor and Council in regards to the library’s request for financial assistance for building repairs. Shevokas gives estimate costs for the necessary repairs. Commissioner Lijewski asks if the request is a donation? Or for the City to fund the project? Shevokas states the library is requesting a donation.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY ARGUBRIGHT SECONDED BY CULLINAN to approve bills as presented for payment. AYES: ARGUBRIGHT, CULLINAN, CURRAN, LIJEWSKI, RIVARA.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY LIJEWSKI, SECONDED BY ARGUBRIGHT to approve the final façade application and reimbursement in the amount of $ 19,315.00 for 2021. AYES: ARGUBRIGHT, CULLINAN, CURRAN, LIJEWSKI, RIVARA. Commissioner Curran states that he was able to get some clarification since the last council meeting. Commissioner Curran reads a passage from the Ordinance and states that certain procedures did not happen; however previous applicants do follow the requirements.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY ARGUBRIGHT, SECONDED BY CURRAN to give a donation to the Oglesby Public Library for necessary building repairs in the amount of $ 9,050.00. AYES: ARGUBRIGHT, CULLINAN, CURRAN, LIJEWSKI, RIVARA.

Mayor Rivara states he was contacted by Glen Jerrard in regards to blowing the Lehigh Whistle on New Year’s Eve and discusses it with the Council. Commissioner Curran asks for some background information on the issue. Mayor Rivara states it is his understanding the whistle would be blown at midnight on New Year’s Eve. The Council members also give their opinions on the significance of the whistle.

Commissioner Reports:

Argubright: all three school districts have doubled their taxes via truth in taxation hearing

Lijewski: Elite Seamless Gutters donated their time and material to make building repairs to the Police Station and thanks them. The 11th annual Shop With a Cop will be held on Christmas Eve and will help deliver to eight families and 17 children. To date, the program has helped 77 families and 143 children and states the program is solely based on donations received. Commissioner Lijewski thanks all of those involved for their time and efforts. Wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and New Year as well as a healthy one. Commissioner Lijewski gives statistics in regards to states and counties that are/are not vaccinated.

Curran: the City was looking to get some sanitary lines viewed with a camera, but had to postpone that. A trickling filter will have to be replaced and the cost to replace it will be under $20,000.00.

Cullinan: none Wishes everyone a Merry Christmas

Mayor’s report: thanks everyone for making the Christmas event a success. Thanks those who help support the food pantry and those who helped make Shop With a Cop a success. Mayor wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
