After a petition-signing event hosted by the Henry County IL GOP, state Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) gave a big shout out to the chairwoman of the county's Republican Party.

"When the mapmakers did their gerrymandering behind closed doors, I don't think they understood about the determination of Jan Weber (of the) 17th Congressional District State Central Committee," Spain wrote in a Feb. 8 Facebook post.

Spain included a picture alongside his comments of himself and Weber, who serves as chairwoman of the county's Republican Party.

"She made a map showing the new districts in the county and takes it around to events to teach voters about their districts," Spain wrote in the post.

In the picture, Spain and Weber were both holding Weber's map of the new districts.

"Held together on the back with name-tags and patriotic persistence, you can't keep good Republicans down," Spain wrote. "THIS is the photo I want to share of my friend Jan Weber."

According to the Peoria Standard, Spain has been critical of the redistricting process, and has kept voters in the loop through every court challenge.

Spain had taken to social media in the past to argue his case, and pointed out in September that data from the U.S. Census bureau confirmed the maps drawn by Democrats were unconstitutional. The article noted that Spain called out his colleagues on the other side of the aisle for blocking attempts for independent redistricting.

About a month ago Spain announced that he would seek re-election in the newly created 73rd State House District, Central Illinois Proud reported. He was first elected by voters in the 73rd District in 2017 after being a member of the Peoria City Council for the decade prior.
