In a March 12 Facebook post, Sen. Brian W. Stewart confirmed the start of his 2022 Summer Reading Club and encouraged young people to sign up for the summer reading club by July 31.
He included a link to a news release with more information too.
"Sign up for Senator Stewart’s Summer Reading Club by July 31," said the post.
Stewart also talked about the new ideas that young people can be exposed through by reading.
“Reading can take us to so many different places, and open doors for us to explore new ideas and activities,” Stewart said. “Students should really check out my Summer Reading Club to see what exciting adventures can be found by reading.”
Stewart's Summer Reading Club is open to youths in first through fifth grades and challenges them to read eight books over the summer. To sign up, youths can fill out a form after they read all eight books. The form should be submitted to Stewart's office at 50 West Douglas St., Suite 1001, Freeport, IL 61032. Sign-up forms are available at area schools and libraries, or by calling Stewart’s office at 815-284-0045.
There will be an official presentation for the young people who go through all eight books. They will receive an official certificate from the Illinois Senate honoring their choice to read. The presentation will take place in August at the historic Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site in Freeport with an ice cream party to follow.
