City of Peru Fire and Police Committee met Feb. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Buffo, Edgcomb and Tieman present. Mayor Kolowski present.

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT: City Clerk Dave Bartley, Alderman Waldorf, Alderman Lukosus, Alderman Sapienza, Alderman Payton, Alderman Ballard, Police Chief Bob Pyszka, PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King, Director of Engineering and Zoning Eric Carls, Human Resource Director Kim Reese, IT Director Stephen Rounds, Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events

PUBLIC COMMENT

MINUTES

Alderman Edgcomb made a motion to approve the Police and Fire Committee Minutes of January 31, 2022. Alderman Buffo seconded the motion; motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

Police Chief Bob Pyszka discussed a pending retirement and recommended testing for Sergeant’s exam. Chief Pyszka reported there is a candidate that has completed training this is tentatively agreed to transfer in. Chief Pyszka stated the hiring would be effective April 2nd.

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported he currently has 11 applications for the pending testing for Firefighter/Engineer.

NEW BUSINESS

Chief Pyszka reported on proposed sergeant testing would be on April 19th for a cost of approximately $11.00. Chief Pyszka stated he believes that probably 8 officers are eligible to test.

Chief Pyszka provided statistics from CodeRED program, stating an 80% success rate. Chief Pyszka reported on the potential for a snow event later in the week to which CodeRED has been utilized to alert residents of parking restrictions.

Alderman Edgcomb made a motion to adjourn. Alderman Tieman seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
