Illinois State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) recently voiced her reaction to the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

According to NBC News, on May 24, 19 children and two teachers died at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde when a gunman entered a classroom and opened fire. NBC News profiled each of the victims.

"My words cannot express the utter shock and sorrow I felt when learning about yesterday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas," Rezin wrote in a May 25 Facebook post. "I’m absolutely heartbroken for the loss of so many innocent young lives to such a senseless act of violence."

The Texas Tribune has compiled an outline of the days leading to the shooting and notes that the shooter had asked a family member to get him a gun before he turned 18 and that they refused. The timeline moves to March 1-3, where he posts private messages on social media about buying a gun. He later posted a note on Instagram stating, "10 More Days." The gunman's turned 18 on May 16, after which he legally purchased ammunition and two AR-15 rifles separately on May 17 and May 20. The shooting occurred on May 24.

ABC News reported on May 31 that the Uvalde School District and Uvalde police are no longer cooperating in a state probe of the incident. The current center of the probe is law enforcement's response, namely regarding how officers waited nearly an hour before entering the school.
