Seneca Township High School District 160 Building, Grounds & Transportation Committee met April 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Ron Frye, Joe Johnson, Dan Stecken, Stacey Gould, Barry Buchanan 

Absent: Cory Yandell

A. Public Comment - None

B. Building, Grounds, & Transportation

1. Gymnasium Design Development Update - Dan Stecken reviewed the most recent gymnasium design documents from Wold including meeting minutes from the technology review meeting and design results from user group meetings.

2. Building Services Report - Barry Buchanan gave an update on current building projects. Barry stated that even with all the recent rain, nothing was coming through the skylights after recent repairs, but drywall damage will require testing for asbestos and quoted the 'repairs to be about $1,900. Barry mentioned other items including the upcoming bleacher repairs, the need for a new coil in the Penthouse air handler, and preparations for training the new maintenance director. 3. Summer Projects

a. Dan Stecken reviewed a list of summer projects between Kathy, Barry, and the summer workers. Dan stated there will be a lot of painting, cleaning, landscaping, and some updates such as tearing out old cabinets in the science labs and updating the women's restroom in the commons.

b. Dan stated that the new chiller project may be slightly postponed due to not receiving the chiller until summer instead of spring.

4. MVK Intergovernmental Agreement - Dan Stecken presented the new transportation contract with MVK. Dan stated there are no changes with the new contract except for some detailed verbiage within the contract regarding driver costs and the types of busses.

5. Special Education Transportation - Dan Stecken presented a list of out of district placements from the. ROE. The District currently has two placements: one to Elim Christian School Intensive and one to Glen Oaks. Dan also mentioned the high costs of tuition and stated Jill Rockrohr did a great job getting a student to come to Seneca next year saving the District thousands of dollars.

6. Vehicle Rotation- Dan discussed the status of District owned vehicles and equipment. Dan mentioned most vehicles are in good shape and will not need to be replaced for a couple years. Bus #201 will continue to be watched based on the number of repairs it's had in recent years.

7. Bus Trade-In Evaluation- Dan discussed options for replacing bus #201 with a trade-in value of $12,000. Based on the cost of both a new bus and a trade-in, Dan recommended waiting and reevaluating in a year. Ron Frye and Joe Johnson agreed.

8. IHSA Membership - Dan presented the annual IHSA membership renewal. 

9. Gymnasium Certificates - Dan discussed a call with John Vezetti regarding debt certificates to finance the gymnasium project. John ran numbers for $5M in debt with a 4-year and a 5-year amortization schedule. Dan stated the debt certificates would be paid completely out of the building fund and ultimately depend on the finalization of the deal with Exelon.

10. Gymnasium Scorer's Table- Dan presented a quote from Correct Digital Displays for a new scorer's table that would eventually be used in the new gymnasium. Dan stated this scoreboard has the ability to generate ad revenue and can be purchased through the Grundy County Bank lease with lease levy funds. Ron Fry and Joe Johnson approved the purchase.

C. Other - Dan presented a final look of the FY 23 school calendar that will be approved at the next Board meeting.

D. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 6:33 p.m.
