City of Ottawa Special Events Committee met April 21.

Meeting call to order at 5:30pm

Funding Requests:
Community Appreciation and Praise in the Park By the organization called I.H.O.P is requesting $1300, with $300 for sound system rental and Speaker Dean Braxton. After some lengthy discussion a motion to table this request for direction of the city attorney was made by Rich and seconded by Peggy Motion carried and will be discussed at the May meeting.
Open Spaces art Gallery submitted a request for $500.00 to be used at 3 Third Friday Events held on June 17th, July 15th, August 19th to Purchase Art and Craft supplies for children projects. Motion by Candy to fund the request and seconded by Rich. Motion carried.
Motion for the Minutes from April Meeting be approve by Jim, seconded by Candy, Approved Motion to approve the Financial report by Mike, seconded by Jim, Approved
With discussion on the Music in the park series 2022, Peggy announced the band called Classix have canceled their MIP event for personal reasons and she was able to replace them with a band called 3 Day Weekend. A discussion on the Band schedule brochure has been decided to do a hand out style of brochure that we can stock at event brochure racks. Rich updated the group that he has setup 90% of MiP dates with food Vendors and will have the balance scheduled soon.
On a Parade Status with Jim Reilly organizer, he was planning to keep the event a smaller event and was looking for sponsorship from businesses and organizations to get involve in participating with floats etc
Work on the Festival of Lights Parade is moving forward with Rich trying to get OHS Band to be a part of the event and can’t seem to get a commitment from them so looking outside Ottawa to find a high school is ongoing. He is looking into a bagpipe organization as a possible addition to the event.
We welcomed Lucas Hennenfent to the meeting, Heard a little about his life and family and look forward to having him on the committee if he so desires.
Discussion on the letter from Hal Gardner requesting us to look into a CCR tribute band Heidy checked into the group and said they were outside our budget guidelines.
