City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Aug. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Ken Brown called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.

Public Comment

None.

Minutes

Moved by Steve Malinsky second by Tim McTaggart, to approve the minutes of the July 25, 2022 meeting as written. All ayes. Motion passed.

Police Preference Points

Veteran Preference points requests have been received from Police Patrolman candidates Marisol Hidalgo and Gavin Watland. Ken reviewed the information and advised the Board that both candidates meet the requirement to receive five (5) points.

Moved by Steve Malinsky, second by Tim McTaggart to award the following preference points to police patrolman candidates:

Marisol Hidalgo: Five (5) Veteran preference points

Gavin Watland: Five (5) Veteran preference points

All ayes. Motion passed.

Moved by Steve Malinsky, second Tim McTaggart by to adopt the Final Police Patrolman Eligibility Register as shown below:

1. Marisol Hidalgo 89.79

2. Gavin Watland 87.71

3. Chandler Koepke 86.95

4. Richard Criscione 81.13

All ayes. Motion passed.

Police Hiring

The Board previously received a request from Commissioner Less to hire five (5). Due to an upcoming retirement and a duty re-assignment, the department is short one officer. In addition, the City Council has authorized the hiring of four (4) additional officers.

Moved by Steve Malinsky, second by Tim McTaggart to offer conditional employment to all (4) candidates on the current Police Patrolman Eligibility Register. All ayes. Motion passed.

Fire Testing

All six firefighter candidates have passed the psychological exams. Their physical exams/and drug screens have been scheduled.

Firefighter Background Investigations

The Board was provided background investigations on all fire candidates for review.

Moved by Steve Malinsky, second by Tim McTaggart to approve all fire candidates’ background investigations.

All ayes. Motion passed.

New Business

Chief Roalson requested that lateral transfers be placed on the September, 2022 agenda.

Next meeting is scheduled for September 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
