Illinois state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) hit the streets to canvass for state Rep. Sandy Hamilton (R-Springfield) in her campaign for the 48th District State Senate seat.
In a recent Facebook post, Rezin posted a photo of her campaigning in a neighborhood with Hamilton and Hamilton’s husband, Bob.
“Sandy is a mom, coach and small business owner who is concerned about the economy and the safety of our communities,” Rezin said in the post.
Hamilton, who was voted to the state’s House of Representatives in December, serves on several committees, including Transportation: Vehicles & Safety, Appropriations – General Service, Financial Institutions, State Government Administration, Appropriations – Higher Education, and Insurance; the Illinois General Assembly website said.
Before being elected to the House, Hamilton was a member of Capital Area Realtors (CAR), where she served on the board of directors, the Finance Committee, and as an executive board member, her campaign website said. She is also a member of the Commercial Real Estate Network (CREN), serving as its president; and in 2019 she was appointed to the Economic and Community Development Commission (EDC).
Hamilton also noted on her website that she recently met with new University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Dr. Janet Gooch, discussing the university and current activities.
“The University of Illinois system is our flagship for higher education in Illinois and I am pleased to learn that enrollment is up 6.4 percent over last year at UIS,” Hamilton said in the story. She added that U.S. News & World Report ranked the university among the leading public regional universities in Illinois for the fourth year in a row.
During the meeting, Hamilton and Gooch also discussed Innovative Springfield, a downtown business incubator affiliated with the university. The goal of the initiative is to grow economic and entrepreneurial opportunities in the city.
