City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Sept. 14.

Ken Brown called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m.

Public Comment

None.

Minutes

Moved by Tim McTaggart second by Steve Malinsky, to approve the minutes of the August 24, 2022 meeting as written. All ayes. Motion passed.

Police Hiring

As of September 12, 2022 IO Solutions had received twelve (12) police applications. Applications closed September 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

Applications are currently available for police lateral transfers, with applications due on or before November 3, 2022. To date, no applications have been received for lateral transfer.

Two of the four police patrol candidates, Gavin Watland and Richard Criscione offered conditional employment have voluntarily withdrawn from the hiring process.

Discussion regarding the requirement for a psychological evaluation for current City telecommunicators that are listed on the police patrol eligibility register. The Board’s current Rules and Regulations mandate all candidates shall submit to a psychological evaluation. In checking with Corporation Counsel, there is no provision to waive this requirement.

The remaining two candidates, Chandler Koepke and Marisol Hidalgo, will be scheduled for a psychological evaluation in the next week or so.

Fire Hiring

All seven candidates on the fire eligibility register dated August 15, 2022, have accepted the conditional offer of employment. However, two, Grant Hacker and McKayla Nila have now resigned. Caleb Beck, Tristen Beck and Brandon Bice reported to the training academy September 12, 2022. Anthony Berta is completing his paramedic and will attend the next training academy. Dylan Kimak has passed his psychological evaluation and medical/physical exam successfully. Chief Bressner advised that the Board will be provided his background investigation in the next day or so.

Firefighter Testing

Firefighter applications are currently available through IO Solutions. Applications close October 7, 2022.
