City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Oct. 12.

Ken Brown called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.

Moved by Steve Malinsky second by Ken Brown, to approve the minutes of the September 14, 2022 meeting as written. All ayes. Motion passed.
Police Hiring
The Board administered the police entry level written exam October 11, 2022. There were six candidates registered to take the exam; five candidates took the exam. Oral interviews for this exam are scheduled for October 22, 2022 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Police Station. Discussed whether Board rules permit lateral transfers from another state. Will seek an opinion from legal counsel on this issue.
From the previous police patrolman eligibility register, two candidates withdrew from the pre-employment process; Gavin Watland and Richard Criscione. Marisol Hidalgo is scheduled to begin training January 8, 2023. Chandler Koepke is currently employed in another community as a part-time officer. She is scheduled to take an exam for part time training in early December. She will then be sent to transition training in March, 2023.
Firefighter Testing
Firefighter applications closed October 7, 2022. IO Solutions is currently vetting all applications to ensure that all required documentation has been received. This written exam is scheduled for November 7, 2022, with oral interviews scheduled for November 17, 2022.
