City of Ottawa Playground & Recreation Board met Sept. 8
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
Recreation Board Members Present: Alex Spencer, Phil McNally, Maribeth Manigold, Steve Brenbarger, Brent Roalson, Kari Hilton, Josh Moore, Randy Bretag, (Dave Marvin, Director of Ottawa Recreation).
Others City Officials attending the meeting: NONE

1. Steve moved to approve August Recreation minutes. Phil second. Motion passed.
2. Phil moved to accept the August Recreation and Pool Financial Reports. Josh second. Motion passed.
3. Commissioner’s Report: Marla absent - Emailed that
A. Ground broke on the fitness court at Kiwanis park this week.
B. Pool bid came in a lot higher than expected, City Council have voted to move forward.
C. Will keep everyone updated on upcoming meetings for Allen Park.
4. President’s Report –
a. Attended Meeting with Ottawa North and South Little league to discuss combining
i. It was voted to remain separated
b. Allen Park -
i. Discussed Playground Equipment and other amenities that were emailed /presented to us by Tammi.
5. Director’s Report –
a. Summer Programs – Softball Final Numbers
i. 2 nights, 12 total teams / 10 weeks of play
1. Cost of program per participant (144) probably a few more than that, but counted 12 per team. (No field maintenance included)
A. $13.50 per person
B. Which is under the subsidized amount that is traditionally accepted ($15.00)

i. Un able to hire League / Field supervisor

6. Old Business:
a. Outstanding committed money – Increased due to the addition of the Thorton Park fence and light pole painting project - $38,425
i. New outstanding total - $101,389
7. Long Range Planning and Board Goals
a. Construction in Progress –
i. Fitness Area at Kiwanis Park
ii. Phil reported B& G Electric finished the Scoreboard Infrastructure project @ Whitney Field.
iii. Board Discussed concerns over Little League decision to stay separate charters.
1. Board feel this needs further action / discussion with both Leagues, moving forward to combine into one entity.
iv. Shelters at Peck Park – should we replace ones that have been torn down.
v. Peck Park Tennis courts – should we include pickle ball lines to existing courts?
vi. Thorton Park Disc golf – (Designs are being worked on)
b. Park Inspections – Randy asked to turn inspection sheets in to him or Steven Kuhn
c. Long Range Plans – Thorton Park
