City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Nov. 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Ken Brown called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m.

Public Comment 

None.

Minutes 

Moved by Steve Malinsky second by Tim McTaggart, to approve the minutes of the October 28, 2022, meeting as written. All ayes. Motion passed.

Fire Testing Update 

The Board administered the written exam for firefighters on November 7, 2022. Eight candidates showed to take the exam, six applicants did not show for the exam. Tests were sent to IO Solutions for scoring on November 8, 2022. Oral interviews are scheduled for November 17, 2022.

Police Testing Update 

Applications for entry level Police Patrolman went live November 3, 2022 and will remain open until November 16, 2022. Candidates that tested previously and did not pass were sent an email letting them know we are accepting applications again. The Commissioners will also be making a phone call to follow up with these individuals.

The Power Test will be administered at Ottawa High School on November 19, 2022 and December 3, 2022 for applicants that are not able to secure appointments with Joliet Junior College.

Discussion 

Information was provided by the Commissioners from their seminar this past weekend and items were discussed regarding a new police academy at Sauk Valley, remote tests, and what Commissioners should be looking for in candidates during oral interviews.
